My Lioness and what she means to me.......
My family name is ‘Lyons’ and I’ve always felt very attached to it, as I suppose many people are; whatever you feel about your name, it can be a part of your identity and history.
I am drawn to it’s meaning and symbolic reference; the ‘lion’ or ‘lioness’.
It wasn’t until my husband and I were planning our marriage that I realised how important my name was to me, and the thought of losing it to take his name, as tradition dictates, wasn’t for me.
This was the inspiration for my Lioness collection, I wanted to create something that would be a talisman for the wearer to represent identity, strength, beauty, confidence, individuality and equality. Something that when worn would be a reminder to stay strong or give you confidence. A reminder to be true to your beliefs and follow your heart...even if it’s not what everyone else is doing.
I chose to depict a Lioness who wears a floral headdress. She is placed on a coin shape with a horseshoe loop, an aesthetic I have taken from traditional jewellery, steeped in meanings and symbolism...but thats another blog post.
I would love my jewellery to be worn and enjoyed by everybody; I hope they are pieces that are future heirlooms, transcending fashion and trends to be worn for years to come.
